This beautiful picture was painted in a cave at Lascaux, South of France about 17000 years ago. It shows that animal portraiture is one of the oldest professions in the world.
I am very pleased to be able to carry on that tradition, and I feel lucky that I can combine my love of animals, especially dogs, with my love of painting and drawing.
There have always been two sides to my art. One is highly realistic and finely detailed, which is how I work when I'm painting animal or people portraits for a client, but I also do loose sketches, usually in pen and ink, of dogs, wolves and landscapes (see Sketches in my Sitemap or About wolves etc in my other website). I enjoy both styles but I usually only sell my more realistic portraits.
My studio is in the north-east of Scotland. I live with my wife, daughter and our three dogs on the edge of the Highlands, and four miles inland from the Moray Firth. When I'm not painting I like to read, play snooker or chess, and walk the dogs over the local farmland. |
